The River Vltava, one of the Czech national symbols, starts on the eastern slope of the Black Mountains near Kvilda at an altitude of 1172 meters, in the extraordinary parts of Šumava National Park. A hiking trail good for walking and cycling will lead you to the source from Kvilda. A wooden statue, shelter and information panels stand around the spring. You will learn, for example, that the nearby peat bogs, protected as part of the Source of the Vltava Nature Reserve, also form the watershed of the Black Sea and North Sea.
