Smetana’s Litomyšl
The most famous native of Litomyšl, composer Bedřich Smetana, is celebrated every summer with a big music festival. Dating from 1949, it is the second oldest music festival in Czechia.
The main program consists of opera productions, concert versions of operas, gala concerts, oratorios, cantatas and songbook evenings, but the varied program also offers room for ballet, church and promenade concerts or forms that overlap other genres. The center of festival events is the magnificent Litomyšl, registered as a UNESCO site.

The motto of the 66th year of Smetana Litomyšl is OUR HOMELAND, which on the one hand emphasizes the roots, traditions and national character of the celebration and festival.
