Earth Day 2024 is here. Long live our planet!
Every April, millions of people all over the world commemorate how beautiful yet fragile our planet is. Earth Day is a call to take steps to preserve our planet for future generations. Join us in celebrating our Earth's special day by thinking about your upcoming holiday and choosing the most sustainable journey. If you’re planning to stay in Czechia, you’ll find that it’s really easy to travel in an environmentally-friendly way.

Travel green - it’s a piece of cake in Czechia!

You don’t have to limit yourself much when travelling sustainably in Czechia. Situated in the heart of Europe, the country offers ideal conditions for anyone who cares about the environment. Did you know, for instance, that the Czech railway network is the densest in Europe? You can get almost everywhere by train, so you won’t need a car. Sorting waste is also easy - Czechia has one of the most efficient waste sorting and recycling systems in the world. Coloured containers can be found on every corner.

Green Prague

Heading for the capital? A great choice. Not only is Prague one of the world’s major cities with the greatest concentration of greenery per inhabitant, it even has the second best public transport system on the planet! And what’s more, Prague ranks as one of the world’s top 50 cities with the most places for walks and trips.

Discovering greenery with Google Maps geniuses

Planning a hike in the countryside? Another great idea! Czechia has one of the densest and most well marked networks of hiking routes in the world. Not to mention the fact that, according to Google Maps, the Czech Republic ranks as a country with one of the highest numbers of tourist regions per inhabitant. The Jizera Mountains and Orlické Mountains have more reviews than even the Swiss Alps and are also two of the top-rated mountain ranges in the world!

Discover the magic of plalking!

Heard about the great new trend called PLALKING? While wandering through Czechia's stunning countryside, you may occasionally come across unsightly litter and rubbish. Don't worry, you can lend a hand, too. Plalking, or picking up litter as you walk, is a great opportunity to become an environmental warrior and help the landscape. You can join the thousands of Czechs who are taking part in the April "Let's Clean Up Czechia" challenge and volunteering to pick up litter in the countryside. Just grab a bin bag and a pair of gloves and head out for a hike. Your body will thank you as well, as plalking is an easy way of keeping fit while helping to save the environment. April, the month of Earth Day, is the perfect time for this.

Contribute to the restoration of nature

In addition to travelling more sustainably, what else can you do? Give it back to nature by planting a tree! Join us in the Plant the Future initiative↗. The goal of the initiative is to plant 10 million trees outside the forest in Czechia by the end of 2025. You can get involved as a donor or volunteer and plant a tree with your own hands. You can thereby strengthen the resistance of the Czech landscape and cities to the effects of climate change.

And why not include sustainable travel in these investments? Check out our tips on how to become a considerate tourist, thus helping to shape a brighter future – for the planet Earth and consequently for us, too! Let’s pamper her, care for her, and treat her with the love she deserves: we have nowhere else in the universe to move to, after all.

Travel sustainably

We love travelling but we are mindful of how damaging it can be to the environment and the locals. To be sustainable, travel should show respect for the nature and culture of the places you visit. Just starting to think about ‘greener’ travel means you are on your way to becoming a responsible traveller.
